What to Drink in St. Vincent

Happy hour is every hour in the Caribbean!

One thing you need to know about the people of St. Vincent & the Grenadines, we love to drink. You’ll catch locals at their favorite drinking spot every day. And, even if you’re not a drinker, there’s something refreshing waiting for you.

Vincy Rum Punch

Well, here we are. Talking about Sunset, one of the strongest rum’s in the world. Sunset comes in at a whopping 87% alcohol. We’re not saying don’t try it, but be careful, and don’t take a shot—trust us!

Our suggestion would be to sample our delicious rum punch. A common drink at most restaurants, it hugs all the right curves, with its vibrant colors, along with a mixture of Grenadine and orange juice, Sunset Rum, and fresh ground nutmeg on top. A beach in a glass indeed!

If you’re not into the fruitier drinks, try our other local rum, Sparrow, a dark rum, or SLR, a lighter version of Sunset, alcohol-wise.

Local Teas

Our Island is abundant with healthy trees and flowers that have always been a part of our culture, and the British influence of our past, lends to an enjoyment that only a warm cup can explain. Some of the most popularly consumed are Lemongrass, Guinea Pepper, Guava leaves, Peppermint, and Hibiscus flowers amongst a trove of others.

Beers

Drinking Hairoun beer is equivalent to drinking water for many locals. It carries the original namesake of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (Hairouna) and means land of the blessed.

Another favorite is Carib, a lager from neighbor Trinidad and Tobago, and Guinness, for folks that like the smooth, dark stout.

Local Fruit Wine

When someone shows up with a bottle of wine, it’s not from France, or even Argentina. But you know it was made with love. The flavors vary by the producer, and what is in season. But, this wine is always pleasant, sweet, crisp, light and can come in flavors like plum rose, marijuana, golden apple and more.

Local Juice

Yes, we go up to places and ask for “local juice.” This is the part where we would pick lime from the trees, passionfruit from vines, and make juice with water and sugar no additives. You can find any local juice from street vendors, or restaurants.

Juice is made from almost all fruits, but there are lovely variations with milk, like carrot and soursop juice.

You can also find Hairoun juices in store. Some favorites are Mauby, Fruit Cocktail and Bitter Lemon.

Our Water

Refreshing and so delicious. On the mainland of St. Vincent our water is derived from natural springs and there is even a sparkling water spring in Layou on the leeward side of the island. On Bequia and when you stay at Hypnosis Haus, we collect rainwater, and in our case, it is purified along with an additional Brita filter on-site for your comfort. Your body is going to love it!

Drink responsibly!
